This year Earth Day’s theme is themed after A Billion Acts of Green: our people-powered campaign to generate a billion acts of environmental service and advocacy before Rio +20.
of Wisconsin led the movement that created the first Earth Day 41 years ago. Now countries around the world set aside a day, on or around April 22, to honor the planet.
What is Earth Day?
Sen. Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin led the movement that created the first Earth Day 41 years ago. Now countries around the world set aside a day, on or around April 22, to honor the planet.
Earthday.envirolink.org says Senator Gaylord Nelson at a conference in Seattle in September 1969, announced that in the spring of 1970 there would be a nationwide grassroots demonstration on behalf of the environment and invited everyone to participate.
Earth Day is now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network and is celebrated in more than 175 countries every year.
One very obvious reason! We are part of this Earth!
Then, we are endangered by every single environmental threat – both directly and indirectly.
One of the most common is the Global Warming, while loss of wildlife and sea creatures is also not so far below in the list
Why not start saving Sea Turtles on Earth Day?
According to www.earthday.org scientists estimate that 6.4 million tons of garbage are dumped into the ocean every year. The massive amount of garbage that litters our oceans is one of the main reasons why nearly half of the world’s species of sea turtles currently face extinction.
Since I travel often these days, one of the very depressing scenes that I see are the ones where our beautiful oceans and lagoons are filled with rubbish, those ranging from empty milk cartons to non-biodegradable ones like plastic bottles and the commonly used and seen plastic bags, which takes years to destroy.
World Class Athletes also gone green! So why not you?
Have you ever heard the Chinese proverb, “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is right now”?
Do you know that planting a tree is one of the very simple ways that you can partake in the events?
Not only does this action make the world a greener place, it also helps limit the dangerous impacts of climate change for future generations.
Earthday.org proudly announces that they are in light that over 45 million trees will be planted in honor of Earth Day 2011!
Ok now is time to see how Eco-Friendly you are!
Do something great for the Earth, something that would help our Earth from facing all environmental threats, just simply take a picture of what you did and upload on to Facebook or any other social network that you might be using and show the World you care!
I might be going through your profiles!
